Prof. Dr. Simone Müller

Simone Müller is senior lecturer of Japanese studies and PI of the SNSF Project Time and Emotion in Medeival Japanese Literature at the University of Zurich. From 2017 until 2023 she was research associate of the ERC Advanced Grant Project “Time in Medieval Japan” (PI Raji C. Steineck). She studied Japanology, Sinology and Philosophy at the University of Zurich, at Tōkyō University of Foreign Studies (Tōkyō Gaikokugo Daigaku) and at Dōshisha University, and received her PhD and postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in Japanology. She conducted research stays at Sophia University, Kyōto University of Technology and Cornell University. Her research interests are in the field of Japanese literature and intellectual history. Key areas are classical Japanese poetry, time concepts at the medieval court, as well as intellectual discourse and literary debates in modern Japan in comparison with European concepts. Fictional Time-Order and Imperial Power at the Court of Emperor Go-Daigo” (Legenda 2023).
